Getting The Love You Want
From Your Relationship
Your relationship is unique. You deserve individualized attention. I believe in the process of marriage counseling and have seen relationships improve dramatically when the couple is willing to try something new and risk being vulnerable. Imago Relationship Therapy has given me tools to help couples to help themselves. By the time a couple enters therapy, they have typically lost empathy for one another. They have reached a point of simply not wanting to hear about the needs of the other person, as each feels too neglected and hurt. Often, one is more insistent about the need for counseling. They may be worried that "dragging" the other to counseling will only result in more resentment.
I believe relationships can bring joy or misery. When counseling focuses only on the problems, counseling fails. Finding the balance between working through the problems and re-energizing the relationship with positive interactions is key. I have found that relationships can be transformed when each person feels understood by the other. Real differences can peacefully coexist as long as they are treated with respect.
